Jay Jay Vitthala
Vitthala is the form the Lord took when appearing to a devotee hundreds of years ago in the village of Pandharpur in the western Indian state of Maharashtra. Since then Vitthala has inspired great devotion and joy in seekers who have sung his name.
Jay jay Vitthala, Jaya Hari Vitthala - these words have been chanted for centuries by the varkaris, the worshipers of Vitthala, making their pilgrimages to his temple in Pandharpur. By chanting the name of Vitthala we can share the devotional ecstasy of these lovers of God. When we worship an outer form of God, such as Lord Vitthala, we are carried inward ot experience the divinity of our own being.
The chant here is led by Gurumayi Chidvilasananda, spiritual head of the lineage of Siddha Meditation master. The recording was made at the Shree Muktananda Ashram in South Fallsburg, New York. The melody is set to the Bhairavi Raga, a melodic form the evokes yearning for union with God.
