Synopsis

The present Volume 6 of Biodiversity in India includes eight articles covering diverse subjects. First chapter is about one horned Rhinoceros conservation in Assam followed by the Amphibians in Western Ghats. These two areas constitute the Hot Spots of Biodiversity. Third chapters is on Floristic diversity of Nawarangpur district in Odisha. It is followed by pollination of some endangred Impatiens species in Western Ghats. Chapters 5 deals with Flora of North Andaman Islands followed by Bioresources of Nilgiris. The genus Cymbopogon in dealt with in Chapter 7 while the last chapter deals with wild edible plants used by the tribals in East Godavari district Andhra Pradesh.

About the authors

T. Pullaiah

Prof. T. Pullaiah obtained his M.Sc., (1973) and Ph.D., (1976) degrees in Botany from Andhra University. He was a Post Doctoral Fellow at Moscow State University, Russia during 1976-78. He traveled widely in Europe and visited Universities and Botanical Gardens in about 16 countries. Professor Pullaiah joined Sri Krishnadevaraya University as a Lecturer in 1979 and became Professor in 1993. At present he is Dean, Faculty of Life Sciences; Head, Department of Botany; Co-ordinator and Chairman BOS in Biotechnology. Professor Pullaiah has published 25 books, 175 research papers and 35 popular articles. His books include Embryology of Compositae; Flora of Andhra Pradesh (4 Vols.); Trees of Andhra Pradesh; Taxonomy of Angiosperms; Flora of Guntur District, Andhra Pradesh, India; Flora of Ranga Reddi District; Flora of Anantapur District; Flora of Kurnool; Flora of Nizamabad; Embryology and Apomixis in Grasses; Flora of Eastern Ghats - Vol.1 and Vol.2; Biodiversity in India - Vol.1; etc. He is principal investigator of 14 major Research Projects totaling more than 70 lakhs funded by DBT, DST, CSIR, DOEF, GCC and WWF. Under his guidance 35 students obtained their Ph.D. degree and 32 students obtained their M. Phil. degree. He is recipient of Best Teacher Award from Government of Andhra Pradesh and receipient of Panchanan Maheshwari Medal of Indian Botanical Society for the year 2002 and Y.D. Tyagi Gold Medal of Indian Association for Angiosperm Taxonomy. He is a Member of International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN).

K. Jaganmohan Reddy

Dr. K. Jaganmohan Reddy is Professor and Former Head, and presently Chairman, BOS in the Department of Botany, Kakatiya university, Warangal. He also Heading the Department of Botany, University Arts & Science College, and IQAC Coordinator same college. He has been engaged both in teaching and research for more than three decades and has published over 150 research articles in reputed National, International Journals and books. He has supervised 14 theses and 5 are in progress. He is a recipient of the eminent scientist award of the year, 2008 by NESA and honour’s award by Academy of Plant Sciences India, 2006. He is also awarded Prof. V. Puri. Medal 2012 from All India Botanical Society. He has visited research laboratories at Western Australia State Agriculture Biotechnology Centre, Murdoch University, Perth; Starch Biosynthesis and Molecular Biology and DNA Sequencing Laboratories, Thailand Science Park, Thailand. He is a member of the editorial boards of some reputed journals of India.
