K. Vasil are also included.  The book includes the biographies of deceased Indian Plant Scientitsts like B.G.L. SWamy, Birbal Sahni, B.M. Johri, E. K. Janaki Ammal, H. Santapau, J. C. Bose, J. Venkateswarlu, P. Maheshwari, M.J. Thirumalachar, M.O.P. Iyengar, Shri Ranjan, Sipra Guhu Mukherjee, T.N. Khoshoo, T.V. Desikachary and y.S. Murthy whose contributions are in different sub-disciplines of Botany and each one is famous in his own discipline. The biographies of Botanists of international eminence like M.S. Swaminathan and k.S. P. Suresh Narayana

P. Suresh Narayana obtained his M.Sc. degree (1971) in Botany from Sri Venkateswara Uinversity.  Later, he joined the department of Botany, S.S.B. N. Junior College, Anantpur, in 1971 and served the Institution for more than 37 years.  He rose to become the Principal of the same Institution (2006).  He took active interest in popularizing Botany among college and High School students.  Many a time he participated in District Science Fairs and Children’s Science Congresses as an adjudicator and encouraged the students to develop the scientific temper.  He participated in several National Symposia in Botany, Environmental Sciences and Biotechnology.  He gave many Radio and T.V. talks on plants, environment and biotechnology over All India Radio.  He actively participates in the social activities participates in the social activities among the elite of Anantpur.  He is a member of a few scientific societies of India.  He also organized a couple of National Symposia in Plant Sciences and Biotechnology Quiz programmes and elocution and Essay Writing Competitions.  During his tenure as Principal, he established the NSS unit in the College and conducted many programmes such as ‘Clean and Green Planting’ and ‘Environmental Awareness’.  He conducted many botanical tours and accompanied students for collections.  His hobbies include reading, correspondence, photography and collection of books and stamps.  He is also an Executive Member of a few local educational institutions and oeganizations.

T. Pullaiah

Prof. T. Pullaiah obtained his M.Sc., (1973) and Ph.D., (1976) degrees in Botany from Andhra University. He was a Post Doctoral Fellow at Moscow State University, Russia during 1976-78. He traveled widely in Europe and visited Universities and Botanical Gardens in about 16 countries. Professor Pullaiah joined Sri Krishnadevaraya University as a Lecturer in 1979 and became Professor in 1993. At present he is Dean, Faculty of Life Sciences; Head, Department of Botany; Co-ordinator and Chairman BOS in Biotechnology. Professor Pullaiah has published 25 books, 175 research papers and 35 popular articles. His books include Embryology of Compositae; Flora of Andhra Pradesh (4 Vols.); Trees of Andhra Pradesh; Taxonomy of Angiosperms; Flora of Guntur District, Andhra Pradesh, India; Flora of Ranga Reddi District; Flora of Anantapur District; Flora of Kurnool; Flora of Nizamabad; Embryology and Apomixis in Grasses; Flora of Eastern Ghats - Vol.1 and Vol.2; Biodiversity in India - Vol.1; etc. He is principal investigator of 14 major Research Projects totaling more than 70 lakhs funded by DBT, DST, CSIR, DOEF, GCC and WWF. Under his guidance 35 students obtained their Ph.D. degree and 32 students obtained their M. Phil. degree. He is recipient of Best Teacher Award from Government of Andhra Pradesh and receipient of Panchanan Maheshwari Medal of Indian Botanical Society for the year 2002 and Y.D. Tyagi Gold Medal of Indian Association for Angiosperm Taxonomy. He is a Member of International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN).
