Synopsis Plant propagation is an art and science which can be learnt with some experience and knowledge about the physiological and other activities of the plants. In order to become a successful nursery grower for perennial plants like fruit trees, avenue trees, landscaping trees and other plants of economic importance, one has to raise plants of paramount quality. Plants must have some desirable characteristics like freedom from diseases, insects and viruses, ready to establish on transplanting, vigorous, healthy, regular bearers, high yielders, adaptable to different agro-climatic conditions, tolerant to natural vagaries etc. To achieve these goals, the nursery grower must be fully conversant with the processes, methods and techniques involved in nursery production, protection and management. The methods and processes involved in plant propagation right from seed collection to their uprooting for almost all the common crops have required has also been given. Efforts have been made to incorporate the latest technical know-how in a simple manner so that a common nursery grower may understand and follow the practices.
