Raagam Tanam Pallavi: Kambhoji (Violin)
Raagam Tanam Pallavi is a form of carnatic music wherein a Raaga is expounded not merely by an elaborate alapana but also by what follows as Tanam which unfolds the very notes of the raaga in a rhythmic way, the raaga development being marked by measured music. While the Raagam and the Tanam are melodic improvisations the Pallavi is a skillful presentation of a one-line composition employing diverse rhythmic treatments of the same. The whole exercise is very demanding, both technically and musically, calling for ingenuity of a high order, as the Pallavi occupies the pride of place in a concert of carnatic music. Dr. Kunnakudi Vaidhyanathan, one of the outstanding violinists in the Carnatic genre, had his training from his father Ramasamy Sastry. His unique bowing and fingering technique vocalized every poetic frame of the composition with telling effect. The mellifluous cine-music flowing from his violin known to mesmerise the masses is a hallmark of his performances. He composed thousands of bhakti songs for H.M.V (Saregama India Ltd.) and also composed music for more than 50 movies. He is the recipient of many prestigious awards and is the secretary of Sri Thyagabrahma Mahotsava Sabha, Thiruvaiyaru and the President Researcher for Raga Research Centre. This album features a 'Raagam, Tanam and Pallavi' in the raga Kambhoji rendered by Dr. Kunnakudi Vaidhyanathan.
