Synopsis This book, dedicated to late Dr. M.S. Randhawa who is synonymous with the beautification of Chandigarh, "The City Beautiful", forms a compendium of invited articles presented during M.S. Randhawa Memorial National Symposium on Trees for Beautification and Eco-friendly Plantations in Cities held at Chandigarh on February 10-11, 1996. The text is divided into five sections namely; landscaping; past, present and future; landscape with native trees, genetic improvement and management of trees; architecture and silvics of ornamental trees and trees for ecofriendly plantations. The topics ranging from case histories of landscaping in the pre-historic past alongwith the articles on trees for 21st century provide the background material for urban beautification. The articles dealing with architectural concept of tree planting forms the species feature. The manuscript includes papers on choice of species for pollution control.
