Based on seminar presentations, the volume focuses on the emerging trends, growth and challenges in infrastructure in India particularly some of the major sectors like the transport sector, the energy and the social sector. Viewing infrastructure as the basic physical and social structure enable entrepreneurs to undertake their productive activities, it deals with India’s infrastructure-related bottlenecks from the beginning of the planning period relating to coverage, ownership, financing, pricing and management of infrastructural projects and services. It provides an overview of recent initiatives in infrastructure in India. With specific reference to infrastructure development in the state of Uttar Pradesh, it examines major themes like growth and development of the aviation sector and road transport sector, impact of the reform process on the power sector, educational development, municipal solid waste management and the challenges and opportunities in the health care sector.
