Synopsis Child Rights and Social Wrongs: An Analysis of Contemporary Realities consists of three volumes and covers the issue of human rights of children in its totality. Besides making a critical analysis of the state of children in present day world, it covers the areas like child education and communication, child health and nutrition, the issue of child survival, in particular, with respect to female foeticide, infanticide and child murder. The whole gamut of parenting and neglect has been addressed. The burning issue of growing crimes against children has been covered in all its manifestations, such as, child abuse, child prostitution, child rape and sexual, exploitation. Also, the contemporary global and Third World agenda, confronting the problems of child labour, child domestics, slavery and beggary being practices by children, etc., has been taken into account for detailed presentation and analysis. Prevailing global, regional and national human rights codifications against such exploitation have been discussed briefly. Issues such as religious rights of children and their overall achievements in the field of human rights have been addressed in global and regional perspective. An evaluation has been made in the subsequent three volumes about the convention on rights of the child, conventions related to protection of and assistance to children, in particular, the juveniles. The juvenile justice act and acts related to other relevant aspects have been elaborated upon in detail while discussing the said issues. An overall viewpoint has been presented about the promises and performances of various initiatives being taken with respect to children’s rights, in particular, by the Third World countries, specially India. Future prospects of UN initiatives and other steps, being undertaken by various institutions and agencies world over towards creating a culture of rights of children globally, have been analysed in detail and a human rights perspective has been presented for reader’s consideration. To cover the aforementioned issues this set has been divided into three volumes, namely, (i) Child as Victim: Dimensions of Abuse and Exploitation, (ii) Violations of Child Rights: Initiatives and Institutions for Reform, (iii) Child as Global Citizen: A Third World Perspective.
