Synopsis Trees play an important role in shaping our lifestyle and landscape. They not only fulfil some of our daily necessities but also serve to maintain natural balance. Considering the multiple uses of trees the present attempt is to compile more information on trees and arrange them according to their values and uses in the form of a handbook. Today when the biodiversity conservation is gaining worldwide recognition information on large varieties of tree species occurring in any part of the world can not be overemphasised. Nepal possessing bewildering varieties of tree species is nature’s bounty. Various informations are available in scattered forms in several publications published in Nepal and India. They are mostly in the form of flora and research journals. The materials published in the handbook have been compiled from various sources but mainly from publications available in the library of Forest Research Department.
