Victims of Crime and the Law

Hari Om Gautam (Author) Rajeev Kumar Sinha (Foroward)
Synopsis

We live in an age of intense criminally where there is hardly anyone who has not suffered victimization or become victims of some criminal act. It is however, highly unfortunate that our Criminal Justice System and even society has categorically paid central attention only on the crime doers, i.e., offenders. Offenders were, and are researched, treated, punished and many a time helped to recover form the punishments. An important element of the crime, i.e., victims are left to suffer for their innocence. They have been marginalized by the criminal law and considered eccentric to the Criminal Justice System. It is yet astonishing to note that the Criminal Justice System would collapse if victims were to refuse to cooperate.

The book Victims of Crime and the Law itself indicates the contents and novelty of the subject particularly in Indian perspective. Even the study about victims gained momentum on global perspective since three decades ago, which resulted in creation of a new branch of study victimology. Though, it has been derived from the Criminology but recognized as an independent branch of study.

The book highlights the extent provisions of the Indian law related to victims besides providing legal framework for victims of crime in some countries of the world.
