They are arranged alphabetically. Photographs of representative species from all families are arranged in 31 plates. For each species, after the correct name followed by basionym, wherever applicable, synonyms mentioned in major floras are also given along with distribution and other details. In this volume 10 new names and 62 new combinations are proposed.

About the authors

S Karthikeyan

S. Karthikeyan (b.1941) has been specialising on Indian grass systematics ever since he joined Botinical Survey of India. He was also cataloging Indian Plants, a part of which (Florae Indicae Enumeratio: Monocotyledonae) was already published jointly with Sanjappa. He lives in Pune.

M Sanjappa

M. Sanjappa (b.1951) did his early work on cytotaxonomy of Indigofera, later joining BSI he continued his interest in legume systematics completing revisions of several genera like Indigofera, Humboldtia, Meizotropis, etc. He is presently Director of Botanical Survey of India. He lives at Kolkata.

S Moorthy

S. Moorthy (b.1943) Joined BSI in 1968 and worked on the floristics of Maharashtra Publihed 2 books and 29 papers. He lives at Pune.
