Synopsis Environmental pollution is a serious threat to human survival on earth. Environment is broadly defined as the total planetary inheritance and totality of all resources. Resources of environment are the resources of development. These days due to rat race of development, forests and grasslands are converted into farms, houses and commercial spaces, raw materials are extracted for energy and commerce, waterways are dammed and diverted. Development cannot afford to destroy the very base on which it depends. Development needs of the country should have a nexus with the parallel need to conserve the environment. This has necessitated the study of environmental management. The environmental management is the only way for sustainable resource usage, sustainable growth and sustainable development. This book is on interdisciplinary endeavour to solve the problem of environmental pollution. The book has been broadly arranged into three sections: (A) Environmental pollution and its human and non-human impacts (B) Management of environmental pollution (C) Planning and policies of environmental management and protection. Environmental management is complex issue which requires the participation of the state, the people and all stake-holders. It requires honest implementation of environment laws. The book will be useful not only for academicians but also for administrators and policy makers. In fact, solution of the environmental pollution lies not in western model but only in Indian model. This will be based on local parameters and would also judge the effectiveness of pollution control measures.
