Synopsis The GCC petrochemicals industry is going through a period of unprecedented expansion. The global petrochemical producers and technology providers alike are investing billions of dollars in GCC petrochemicals projects. The strategies for GCC petrochemical investment suggested in this book take into account the entire value chain and discuss the appropriate actions at each point in an integrated manner. It is important for investment planners to understand these issues, in order to develop or modify their strategies that ensure expeditious development for robust petrochemical projects in this region. This comprehensive research based work investigates into an international study of Strategic Investment Decisions (SID) in GCC petrochemical sector through a comparative case study method. The purpose of this book is to evaluate the status and structure of petrochemical industries, the competitiveness of petrochemical companies and review of major petrochemical investment projects. A comparative study of GCC petrochemical industry has been presented covering different aspects of strategic investment decisions. Our analysis leads to an overall assessment of GCC petrochemical industry and finds out the favourable destinations of SID in the GCC region on the basis of identified variables. It also helps in identifying the strategic issues that will impact the future development of the GCC petrochemical industry. Finally, it will also substantially contribute in making appropriate recommendation for the industry to insure sustained growth for long-term. Based on the analysis, Saudi Arabia emerged as highly favourable destination for SID among the GCC countries whereas Kuwait, Qatar and UAE are favourable destinations for investment in petrochemical sector. The research concludes that the increasing influence of GCC on global petrochemical markets over the long term will remain due to its advantageous strategic Investment Parameters. Further petrochemical development in GCC countries will lead to growth in tertiary, energy-intensive and export-oriented conversion industries.

Dr. Parag Diwan is a high technology buff, having worked with organizations like NASA and Semiconductors Complex Ltd. Different facets of high technology from rocket science to micro-circuits fascinate him. Currently, apart from his other multifarious interests and responsibilities, he is deeply interested in harnessing the power of ten raised to minus nine, i.e. the nano-world.
