Synopsis The first edition of the book contained separate foreword, preface, chief editor's note and co-author's note etc. for each volume.  Now in the present edition, several volumes of the past edition are merged in one or the other part.  Hence all prefaces cannot be accommodated as such.  Considering their utility and authenticity all such notes, prefaces and forewords have been put respectively under a separate heading in each part of the present edition for ready reference of the readers.  In new edition the chapter summaries of each chapter have been shifted to the end of the chapters, while the brief abstract of the chapters contained in the introduction of the respective volumes of the last edition have been retained in the beginning.  A detailed subject content list has been added in each volume of the new edition for the convenience of the readers.  The present edition of Susruta Samhita is endowed with authentic translation of the text in good English with scientific remper, appropriate notes, chapter summary and identification of probable research areas in each chapter.  The work is easy to read and grasp the contents in contemporary contexts.  All diacritical marks have been rechecked and are used meticulously to make the book correctly readable by non-Hindi readers.  It is hoped that this work will be of renewed interest among the seekers of susrutarian wisdom and expertise.
