The Gheranda Samhita: Original Text, Transliteration, English Translation

J.L. Gupta (Editor) Rai Bahadur Srisa Chandra Vasu (Translator)
Synopsis The sacred land of India is the only place in the whole world that has devoted all its talents in a concentrated effort to seek the Truth. As the prime aim of life is to yoke oneself to the Holy Spirit, i.e., the Supreme Consciousness, Hindi scriptures enlighten us on the various ways of doing it. Yoga is a unique spiritual discipline to discover the path of Eternal Truth. The practice of Yoga is a pre-requisite to purify the inner system, the heart and the mind. Yoga brings integration in body, mind and soul. Yoga makes one understand the infinite energy manifest within as it deals with our essential inner nature and creates the right kind of interior to foster joyous and peaceful living. The Gheranda Samhita, as a valuable Sanskrit text of Yoga and Tantra, enunciates this spiritual science in a very comprehensive manner. The practice of Yogic discipline revealed through this text is able to deliver several perfections (Siddhis) to the Yogi. The first lesson (Upadesa) starts with the cleaning of the six purificatory processes-Dhauti, Basti, Neti, Laukiki, Trataka and Kapalabhati. The second Upadesa focuses on 32 selective postures; the fourth on Pratyahara (Abstraction), the fifth on the Pranayama (Regulation of breath), the sixth on contemplation (Dhyana) and the seventh on spiritual trance (Samadhi).
