Monica Chawla (Author)
Synopsis Women constitute half the population of the society and it is presumed that best creation belong to the women. Article 15 (3) of the constitution of India says that--"Nothing in this Article shall prevent the state from making any special provision for women and children." There have been continuous efforts nationally and internationally to improve the status of women. The United Nations committee on convention on elimination of all forms of discrimination against women  in its general recommendation No. xii (1989) has recommended that the state parties should act to protect women against violence of any kind especially that occurring within the family. On the basis of that the protection of women from domestic violence Act, 2005 has been enacted. This book has been written keeping in view the needs and requirements of law students. The special features of the book are the protection of women from domestic violence Act, 2005, and the Hindu succession (Amendment) Act, 2005. The book is divided into seven chapters of which the first six chapters deal with the provisions relating to women in personal law, criminal law and constitution law. The last chapter covers the special laws relating to women.
