Synopsis A word of apology would perhaps be necessary before presenting a work on political institutions of the Mughals. These aspects have already been studied in detail by various scholars either as Doctoral dissertation in the shape of monographs or as research papers published in various historical journals. Thus there is no derth of published works on the subject. But even then it was felt desirable to weave the data contained therein into an integrated picture of the Mughal government in the light of the latest studies and researches. The aim is not to add one more text-book, but to place before the students and those interested in understanding the Mughal institutions, a comprehensive account of the subject to create inquisitiveness among the readers to undertake intensive study of each single aspect.
