Feminist Issues in Indian Literature: Feminism and the Individual

R.J. Kalpana (Author)
Synopsis As the title Feminism and the Individual suggests, the author's focus is on woman as an individual: the issues that confront her uniquely and the choices she has to make as an individual. Ever since family organization has been redefined, the focus shifts onto an individual. The book highlights those issues that have bearing upon an individual when making a choice and the consequences of that choice. Moving from the bonds of man-woman relationship to the concepts of surrogacy to economic issues, the book is a well-researched work. The book discusses, in context with the given theme, the fiction of major contemporary women writers: Anita Desai, Kamala Markandaya, Nayantara Sahgal, Shashi Deshpande, Namita Gokhale, Indira Mahindra and Suniti Namjoshi.
