Education and Socio-Economic Perspectives of Women Development and Empowerment

Aruna Goel (Author)
Synopsis Health, education and share in economy, governance at national, state and local levels for development are more important for women than merely engaging in making laws to save them from exploitation and violence. The concentration should be on programmes, methods and practices in the areas of education, health, governance, employment, rural and urban development through which women can develop themselves. The present book has been divided into Eleven Chapters. All the chapters are supplemented with tables, charts, and case studies. Chapter one deals with women’s profile, constitutional and legal status and role of five year plans. Chapter two discusses about theoretical perspectives of Women Development and Empowerment. Chapters three and four examine the role of Women’s Health, Family Planning and Reproductive and Child Health in Women Empowerment. Chapters five and six deal with Education from elementary to University levels as Education contributes a lot to the process of women development. Chapters seven and eight deal with economic perspectives as participation in economic activities by women can add to economic independence and thus lead to women empowerment. Chapters nine and ten deal with the share in governance by women especially in Local bodies. Women in their own governance take rational decisions which can help them in Empowerment. Lastly Chapter eleven deals with women in rural development which can make them self-reliant and co-partners in development. The present book would be of great use to political elite, scholars, policy-makers, planners, and decision-makers, engaged in Women Development and Empowerment. This book would fill the gap in the literature on women studies discrimination. In addition, Women Organisation in Government, Voluntary Organistions, women in general, would love to read this book to chalk out their plans and policies in favour of women.
