The book tries to reduce jargons and confusions related with concepts like-forest, forest products, deforestation, degradation, conservation, and management of forest resources. With continuous evolving paradigms of management, there is a need to look at the subject with fresh perspectives. With so much of conservation work the forest area is still shrinking and density of forest is increasing in the valley. There is pressing need to look at the contested domains of different components who are involved in the management of forest. The subject matter has been re-approached through qualitative as well quantitative methodology. The government policies have been evaluated in this research work. The village community has looked at Joint Forest Management (JFM) as a source of employment with little realization of long term involvement in forest management. There are many a misunderstandings and a communication gap with regard to the actual parameters of JFM. The long history of without any stake in forest management creates doubt in the minds of villagers about the real purpose of JFM.
