Ashit Desai, Shankar Mahadevan, Suresh Wadkar, Amitabh Bachchan
Synopsis

Shankaracharya bequeathed to mankind innumerable stotras each soaked in metaphysical nectar. Soundaryalahari known for its lyrical beauty, is one of his greatest works and is a compendium of Mantra Shastra. Legend has it that on his way to Mount kailasa, Shankaracharya was gifted with the manuscript of Soundaryalahari. Lord Nandi unwilling to part with the esoteric verses took back a part of it. What remained in the hands of Shankara was a treausure house of information on Sri Vidya called Ananda lahari containing 41 verses. Compelled to complete the entire hymn, Shankara composed 59 additional erses to make Soundaryalahari an extraordinary work of 100 verses extolling the beauty and grandeur of Lalita Tripurasundari.

About the artist

Ashit Desai

To Ashit, music was a legacy, then it grew to be a passion. His repertoire has flowed wide and deep. Though his music is firmly rooted in tradition, his compositions augment the melodies with creative variations within the broad framework of the poetic mood being evoked. As a composer, he tackles difficult themes with effortless ease lending a masterly touch to his work. He has scored dramas, dances, ballets, serials and numerous albums. He also sang devotional songs for the film ‘GANDHI,’ each revealing the man behind the music. His individuality and talent is amply displayed in SHRADDHA. In the last three decades, Ashit has crafted a rich and varied body of work, yet his musical talent flows unabated. So much done, so much yet to do.
