Raagam Tanam Pallavi: Todi
Raagam Tanam Pallavi is a form of carnatic music wherein a Raaga is expounded not merely by an elaborate alapana but also by what follows as Tanam which unfolds the very notes of the raaga in a rhythmic way the raaga development being marked by measured music. While the Raagam and the Tanam are melodic improvisations the Pallavi is a skiful presentation of a one-line composition employing diverse rhythmic treatments of the same. The whole exercise is very demanding both technically and aesthetically calling for ingenutiy of a high order as the Pallavi occupies the pride of place in a concert of carnatic music.
Trichur V.Ramachandran a prime disciple of 'Sangita Kalanidhi' G.N. Balasubramaniam exemplified true passion for music serious pursuit of which gained precedence over studying medicine. With a grounding in music under Varkala Subramania Bhagavatar and Tripunithura Krishna lyer Ramachandran had his skills honed by GNB. With a presentation moulded in the GNB 'bani' or style and with a voice that sounded the same as his guru's Ramachandran enthralled listeners with music that evoked memories of GNB himself. Ramachandran is trained in Hindustani music too. His successful career as a musician vindicates his decision early in life to pursue music rather than medicine.
