About the authors

Pradip K. Bhowmick

Pradip K. Bhowmick (born 1955) did his M.A. in Rural Development in the year 1980. In the year 1988 he was awarded Ph.D. from I.I.T., Kharagpur. He was also awarded D. Litt. in the year 1998 from Ranchi University. At present he is Associate Professor in the Rural Development Centre, I.I.T., Kharagpur. Dr. Bhowmick has published articles related Tribal and Rural Development Programmes in reputed journals and also authored a few books. He is also co-author of the book namely, Tribal Unrest and Tribal Movement (1994), Land and Forest: Twin Tribal Problems (1998). The author of several reseaerch paper Dr. Bhowmick has been interested in teaching, training and conducting researches among the rural and tribal communities.

Palash Chandra Coomar

Dr. Palash Chandra Coomar, M.Sc., Ph.D. (born 1956) is at present working as the Deputy director, Directorate of Census Operations, west Bengal. Earlier he was in the anthropological Survey of India. He undertook research work among different tribal and non-tribal communities in different parts of India. He is also the paper-setter and examiner of Post-graduate and Ph.D. students of different parts of India. He is also the paper-setter and examiner of Post-graduate and Ph.D. students of different Universities. He has also published a number of books and articles. Some of his important books are Tribal India in 2 vols. (with Dr. M.K. Raha) Polyandry in India (with Dr. M.K. Raha), Migration and Social Change.
