War on Iraq

Sharad S. Chauhan (Author)
Synopsis There has been considerable debate over the last one year ingeneral and a few months in particular about the weapons of mass destruction which Iraq might have in its possession. The United States and its principally, the British Government aided by their security agencies are very confident that Iraq under the leadership of Saddam Hussein does have these weapons and might threaten the interest of the United States or any other nation closely associated with them. The other nation which has supported the stance of the United States is Israel which is still haunted by the memories of Gulf War, when many Iraqi Scud missiles landed in its territories, without Israel actually taking part in the war directly. Most of the other nations are either unmoved or are skeptical about the hysteria are also of the opinion that is it all related to the all important oil trade of which Iraq is an important player. One thing however stands out very clearly-why would President George Bush burn his fingers with something without any apparent provocation? Why should United States afford a war which would affect its economy adversely? Has United States actually controlled any part or benefited any manner in the oil trade after the Gulf War? Was it not Iraq, which actually invaded Kuwait in the first place to invite the wrath of the Western Allies? Did any one suspect Al-quada to conduct operations of the scale of the September 11? What about the declarations made by Iraq itself to various United Nations agencies regarding its past weapons of mass destruction? If one sympathetically considers the above questions and reads the chapters of the book one would be bette placed to understand the position of the United States. One point wouwld still remain. Destroying infrastructure does not end the story of weapons of mass destruction till the inventory of scientist of these programmes is made. What the United States has succeeded in is in developing a complete list of the Iraqi facilities, but destroying them wouwld be only a partial solution, and they wouwld be reconstructed once again, and will the USA keep on attacking Iraq (or for that matter any other nation in its place) after every 10 years? The ansers to these questions are as difficult and tricky as the questions themselves. The first chapter is the Assessment of the British Government on Iraq. The second chapter is a Qhite House release on Saddam Hussein’s misinformation and propaganda warfare over the years. The third chapter is an analysis of the Iraqi weapons of Mass Destruction. The fourth chapter deals with the consequences and scenarios related to the forceful disarming of Iraq. The fifth chapter is a brief prepared by the CIA on the Iraqi weapon of Mass destruction. The subsequent chapters are a beautiful compilation by the Federation of American Scientists of Iraqi’s Nuclear, Chemical, Biological and other special weapons, the various monitoring agencies and intelligence agencies involved in the Iraqi weapons of Mass destruction activities and their deception activities. True to our expeceetations, the US has finally decided to attack Iraq. The final chapter aims to give a birds-eye-view of the American military superiority, its war plans, and weapons superiority by which it aims to crush Iraq soon. But will that happen? We will have to wait to see who has the last laugh. The book aims to give various aspects of the Iraq’s weapons of mass destruction at a single portal to make an interesting reading.
