About the author

Supriyo Chakraborty

Supriyo Chakraborty (born in 1968) obtained his B.Sc. (Agri) degree with “Distinction” in 1990 and M.Sc. (Agri) degree in 1992 from Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat, India. He secured Ph.D. degree in Life Sciences (Botany) in 1998 from Dibrugarh University, Dibrugarh. He has had a brilliant academic career right from the high school leaving examination. Dr. Chakraborty has more than 8 years experience as an Assistant Professor cum Scientist in research, extension and teaching. He worked on the genetics and breeding of rice, tea, greengram, blackgram and other pulse crops. He has to his credit 35 research papers published in national and international scientific journals and 22 popular scientific articles. He has also authored one book entitled Rice Breeding and Genetics and this work was appreciated by Dr. G.S. Khush, a rice scientist of global repute at IRRI, Philippines. He is also a fellow of the Indian Society of Genetics and Plant Breeding and member of several professional societies. In the social work front, he has been involved in creating awareness among common people about “Biodiversity Conservation”, “Intellectual Property rights (IPRs)” and “Importance of Genetics and Plant Breeding to Men”. At present he is lecturer in the Department of Biotechnology, Assam University (A Central University) Silchar, Assam.
