Crocodile Fever: Wildlife Adventures in New Guinea

Zai Whitaker (Author) Rom Whitaker (Author)
Synopsis Crocodile Fever is about the wildlife and people of New Guinea as seen by a 'croc man' and his wife. A naturalist's dream, the island still hides many mysteries in her vast swamp forests, sinuous rivers and craggy young mountains. Rom Whitaker was invited by the United Nations and World Wide Fund for Nature to do crocodile surveys deep inland in New Guinea and to help set up village crocodile farms. Rom and Zai spent two years in Papua New Guinea and Rom then travelled for nine months on the western half of the island, Irian Jaya. This book records the authors' incredible and occasionally hilarious experiences on uncharted rivers and tangled forests to find crocodiles, pythons and intriguing tribal people. Supported by vivid, black and white and colour photographs and equisite illustrations Crocodile Fever offers a 'croc's eye view' of one of the world's last unknowns. The authors' fascination for the dangerous and the unexplored makes this book an exciting natural history chronicle in which New Guinea with its spectacular wildlife comes alive.
