Buddhist Iconography of Northern Bactria
This is an English translation of the work by a Buddhist scholar, Dr. Kazim Abdullaev, that relates to Buddhist iconography in the region of Bactria at the foot of the Hissar mountains and north of the river referred to as Amudarya. It deals with the legacy of Buddhist sculptures in the region and its architectural, artistic traditions. It takes up various sites for detailed study of findings therein. Documenting many sites and objects of interest that include the monasteries at Old Termez, and local Buddhist buildings and images at Fayaztepa and Adjinatepa, it delves into the tradition of plastic art in the region in detail covering the Hellenistic and late-Hellenistic periods, Yue-zhi period, the reign of the Kushanas and the late fourth to fifth century period.
