The book deals with the ethnic Kuki history in Manipur. Based on intensive field studies, it argue that political and economic factors interwoven eith the lives of the Kukis have affected the growth of their history. It examines the socio-culture and political structure of Kuki life and the encounters of the Kukis with the British. It discusses particularly their traditional, colonial and contemporary economy. It showcases the result of articificial division of the community by state cboundaries in the north-est region and the need for laws/changes in Constitutional provisions to ensure the tribals of the region have their rights and justice, delving into the poor plight of the minority tribals of the hills. It views the strengths, weaknesses and threats to the Kuki community, highlighting the significance of understanding diverse socio-political perspectives and of strategies for peaceful coexistence.
