This book closely looks at the chronological history of the Assamese ethnic fiction within the framework of comparative literature. Unveiling the rich and varied representations of the ethnic world, it attempts a cross-cultural investigation into select novels of noted writers, namely, Yeshe Dorjee Thongchi, Pratibha Ray and Mahasweta Devi, with reference to the motifs of forest, human rights and development.
It also strives to compare the select fictions of Narayan, Rond Bong Terang, Lummer Dai, Yeshe Dorjee Thongchi and Sisuram Pegu, in regard to the use of folkloristic material in their fictions. Absorbing parallels of the feminist echoes in the writings of Lummer Dai, Maitreyi Pushpa and Mahasweta Devi have been drawn as well.
