Dr Yogesh Sharma, Ph.D. from l'Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales, Paris is Associate Professor at the Centre for Historical Studies, J.N.U. His field of research includes the European Traders and Indian Commercial and Maritime History.

Pius Malekandathil is at present Reader in History at Goa University. He took M.A. from Kerala University, M.Phil. and Ph.D. in History from Pondicherry Central University. His publications include The Germans, the Portuguese and India, Munster (Germany): LIT Verlag, 1999, The Portuguese, Indian Ocean and European Bridgeheads: Festschrift in Honour of Prof. K.S. Mathew and Teotonio R. de Souza, Fundacao Oriente, 2001. Dr. Pius contributes regularly to national and international journals and seminars. His forthcoming volume is The Portuguese and the Hinterland: The Journey of D. Alexis Meneses to the Land of St. Thomas Christians.
