Holy Shrines of Assam: Brahmanical, Bauddha, Christian, Islamic, Jain & Sikh

Pradip Sarma (Author)
Synopsis The book Holy Shrines in Assam is compiled with the sincere intention of giving the readers a first-hand idea about the numerous places of religio-cultural interest in the State of Assam. Assam is dotted with a plethora of places of worship from every major religion of our country. The most dominating religion of this state is the Brahmanical faith which, because of its existence sine the earliest phase of history, assimilated into it many local thoughts and beliefs thereby making it accessible and acceptable to most of the autochthones of this region. Thus, Hindu shrines can be seen both in the hills and plains in this region, the selective ones from which are included in this volume. A few Buddhist and Jain Shrines both from old and new, are described here. Some Sufi saints also caused many shrines to be constructed on this land, a few selective ones from which are included. The few old Gurudwaras, which have their interesting backgrounds, are also enlisted. It is hoped that the book will be of some interest to all, - the ordinary and the serious readers alike.
