Synopsis

The volume presents some of the papers presented at the 29th annual Conference of Indian Association for the Study of Population held in 2012. The papers focus on themes such as fertility transition and public health challenges in low and high fertility states of India, reproductive and sexual health including maternal health care and HIV/AIDS. With specific reference to Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Orissa, Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh, they discuss nutrition and child health particularly knowledge and awareness about newborn care practices, breastfeeding practices, nutritional disadvantage and reducing child mortality especially among tribals and disadvantaged groups. They view human vulnerability, in particular, risk of epidemics hazards, at community and household levels. They examine the present scenario and link them with policy and programme implications.

He has more than 22 years of experience in socisl/developmental and demographic research on wide ranging issues in India and Sri Lanka. He has MBA, PG diploma in Management, Diploma in Management and PG Diploma in Human Resource Managment from IGNOU, M. A. Sociology from Annamalai University, Ph. D. and M. Phil. from International Institute for Population Sciences and M. Sc. Statistics from Andhra University. He is member of East-West Center, Honolulu. Population Environment Research Network, and International Union for Scientific Study of Population (IUSSP). He is Executive Board member of International Society for Urban Health (ISUH), General Secretary and Board of Trustee Treasurer of the Indian Association for Study of Population (IASP) and Vice President of the Indian Association for Social Science in Health (IASSH). He was member of Expert Group on HRG Estimation for National AIDS Control on HRG Estimation for National AIDS Control Programme III Planning, and Mrmber, Advisory Board-Byrraju Foundation.
