Synopsis

Flowering Plants of Sholas and Grasslands of the Nilgiris is a compendium that provides the basic information about the sholas and all known flowering plants occuring in sholas and grasslands. It is a total collection of 641 taxa including 573 species, 16 subspecies, 51 varieties under 366 genera and 112 familites. They are arranged in Family wise alphabetically. Photographs of representative species are arranged in 70 Plates. For each species, after the correct name followed by basionym wherever needed, synonyms mentioned in major floras are also given along with distribution and other details.

About the authors

N. Krishna Kumar

Dr. N. Krishna Kumar, IFS, belongs to Tamil Nadu cadre and had worked in the Nilgirs from 1990-1996 in the capacity of District Forest Officer. His area of specialization in forestry research includes Restoration ecology, Wildlife Biology and Biodiversity conservation. IFGTB, he has been providing leadership in research in diverse areas of forestry.

S.P. Subramani

Dr. S.P. Subramani is a botanist and presently working as in-charge of Fischer Herbarium (FRC), in IFGTB, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. His fields of specialisation include Taconomy of Angiosperms and Gymnosperms, Medicinal plants, Plants Biodiversity Conservation Ecology and Ethnobotany. Deserts and has published more than 50 research papers in reputed journals.

P.S. Udayan

Dr. P.S. Udayan is presently working as an Assistant Professor of Botany in Sree Krishna College, Guruvayur, Thrissur, Kerala. His specialization in the field of Taxonomy of Flowering plants. He is guiding several Ph.D, scholars in Calicut and Kannur Universities. He has discovered and published a few new species of Flowering Plants.

R. Anandalakshmi

Dr. R. Anandalakshmi is working as Scientist and Head of the Seed Technology Division at the Institute of Forest Genetics and Tree Breeding, Coimbatore. She has rich experience of 13 years in tge field of Seed Science and Technology and has been in studies on seed biology of shola species and established shola restoration trials.
