Jainism: A Theistic Philosophy (God in Jainism)

Krishna A. Gosavi (Author) Parshwanath Vidyapeeth Series
Synopsis

Theism in Jainism is a spiritual philosophy that has four basic concepts, those of the soul, karma, god and moksha. The book critically evaluates these characteristics in the light of Vedic philosophy, Buddhism, Samkhya Yoga, Nyaya-Vaisheshika, Purva Mimamsa and Vedanta and tries to show that Jainism has its own theistic concept. It argues that in Jainism, man can, if he chooses to, become the supreme soul or Paramatma in this life because his soul has the potency to evolve to such a supreme state. Offering perspectives and raising issues from the Western and Indian academia, it delves into the concept of the soul, the doctrine of karma and that of transmigration, and the theory of moksha or liberation in Jainism as well as other religious philosophies of India.
