Synopsis This book contains complete data on ethno-medico botanical studies of the "Nishi" and the "Apatani" the most acclaimed aboriginees inhabiting the erstwhile Subansiri district of Arunachal Pradesh. These species belong to: Fungi (1); Pteridophytes (7); Gymnosperm (1) and Agniosperms (145) are enumerated alphabetically with latest taxonomic treatment, vernacular names; occurrence, ecological adaptation; early reference of their reported distribution in published floras, monographs and journals; local utilisation in ethnomedicine and established reports for comparison to verify authenticity. Usage in ethnomedicine of the enumerated species has been categorised depending on their relative application as regards to various ailments, diseases and disorders. The book has been well illustrated with number of coloured photographs which are an added attraction.

About the authors

M S Rawat

Dr. M.S. Rawat, Ex-Superinintending Palynologist (Oil & Natural Gas Commission) obtained his Ph.D. degree in Botany 1981 from Meerut University (Ch. Charan Sigh University of U.P.) under the inspiring and able guidance of (Late) Dr. V. Puri, D.Sc. FNA, Professor Emiritus, Meerut University. He has been authoritiative for establishing biostratgraphy and source rock palynology of various sedimentary sections of different sedimentary Basins of India and abroad (Iraq &Abu Dhabi) with particular emphasis on Cambay, Saurashtra Coast, Cauvery, Krishna Godavari and Mahanadi offshore Basins of India.

He has nearly 45 research papers published in national and international journals. He has attended around 25 national and international conferences, seminars and symposiums and presided over Tertiary-Quaternary sessions of certain such meets.

S. Chowdhury

Dr. Sarthak Chowdhury (b. 1959) graduated in Agriculture and M.Sc. (Agri.) in Agricultural Extension from Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyataya, West Bengal. He received Ph. D. degree from Visva – Bharati in 1988. His areas of specialization are Technology Transfer and Agricultural Communication. Dr. Chowdhury was lecturer in the Department of Extension Education, Institute of Agricultural Science, Banaras Hindu University fro April 1989 to August 1997. Presently he is serving as Reader in Agricultural Extension of Visva Bharati. Dr. Chowdhury who has a distinguished academic career, has several research publications to his credit, and is actively engaged in teaching, research and extension activities. He supervised the work of one Ph. D. scholar.
