Synopsis

The authors Hugh and Colleen Gantzer have been travelling around India for over forty years. They launched India's first travel column in a national daily, hosted lifty two weekly episodes of India's first travel scripts for dot.coms and won several national and international awards.

Intriguing India is a four volume series. The Alluring North and The Vibrant West are the winners of the National Thurism Award for Excellence, 2011 -2012.

Intensively researched and illustrated with photographs, it is a result of weaving together 40 years of personal travel experiences across the length and breadth of India.

In The Alluring North authors travel to various religious places and heritage sites including the Sikh shrine in Anandpur Sahib, Kedarnath and Badrinath. The Vibrant Rest showcases the Ajmer Sharif Dargah and Shridi.

The cultural diversity of India is revealed through the tehreeb of Lucknow in The Alluring North while, The Historic South explores among other things the origin of masala dosa in udupi and The Vibrant West describes the time-bound delivery, system of dabbawalas along with many other interesting details.

In The Colourful East, the authors highlight India's arts and crafts. It leads us to the famous palm leaf Pattchiiras and other interesting objects like the oldest playing cards known as Ganjapa of Orissa. The Historic South describes the history of the boat races in Kerala. The Vibrant West explores the sculpture of Kalki, Rani ki vav in Gujarat and painted ceilings in Shekhawati.

About the author

Colleen Gantzer

Colleen Gantzer is seventh- and second-generation Anglo-Indian. He is best known as India’s pioneering travel writer, photographer and maker of travel documentaries for television. He has won a number of national and international awards for his work. He travel for six months every year. When he is not traveling, he lives in his 175-year-old cottage in the oak woods of the Himalayas.
