Non-Traditional Sectors for Fertiliser Use

H.L.S. Tandon (Editor)
Synopsis Almost 50% increase in agricultural production in recent decades has been credited to fertiliser use. Although India is the 4th larger user of fertilisers, bulk of it is used only on a few crops. These are several other sectors of the country's agro-industrial economy in which fertilisers can play an important role towards increasing productivity. Some such sectors are fish ponds, rainfed/dryland areas, forest plantations, agro-forestry, preparation of enriched organic manures, fodders, grasslands and pastures, fortification of animal feeds, sericulture and medicinal and aromatic plants. This books deals with nutrient management and fertiliser-use potential in the above sectors. The discussion includes an assessment of the present state of the art, scope for fertiliser usage, constraints as well as suggestions for future research and development. A considerable amount of scattered information is consolidated and analysed for possible practical application. This book will be particularly valuable for all those interested in the fertiliser sector of agriculture, animal husbandry, fisheries, sericulture, forestry, agro-forestry, essential oils and medicinal plants, efficient organic recycling and resource utilisation, rainfed/dryland agriculture, and fodders and pastures. It will also serve as a reference for students, teachers, researchers, government departments, planners and policy makers.
