About the authors

S. Siva Raju

is a professor and Dean of School of Development Studies at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai. His broad fields of research interest are ageing, health, population and development. He has directed several Research Studies on various social issues; including five studies in the field of Social Gerontology. He has to his credit the following publications in the field of Ageing: Gerontological Social Work in India: Some Issues and perspectives (Co-editor), A Classified Bibliography on Social Gerontology in India (Co-author), Health Status of the Urban Elderly, Social Mapping of Organizations Working on Ageing Issues in Mumbai, Networking of Organisations Working for Care of Older Persons and Voice of the Elderly in India. He has prepared a Status Report on older poor in India, which was launched by the UNFPA at the Second World Assembly on Ageing in Madrid in 2002. He is also a member of the Core Group of the Committee on Protection and Welfare of the Elderly Persons for the National Human Right Commission, New Delhi.

P.M. Sandhya Rani

P. M. Sandhya Rani, holds post graduate degrees in anthropology and Zoology and doctoral degree in Anthropology. She is an Associate professor in the center for Development studies, School of social sciences, Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai. Her areas of specialization and research interests mainly include population anthropology, health care, sexual and reproductive health, tribal development, nutrition and food security, children, adolescents and youth related issues. She has worked on a number of different regions. She has presented papers in various national and international conferences and seminars. She has published several papers in journals and books and co-authored books.
