Synopsis The Flora of Mizoram is proposed to be published in three volumes. The present volume, dealing with general chapters, like introduction, physiography, climate, geology and soil, forests and forest types, botanical studies, forestry, economic plants, floristic diversity, references, key to the families etc. includes taxonomic account of 884 taxa belonging to 403 genera and 90 families from Ranunculaceae to Asteraceae. Of these 172 species and one variety have been recorded for the first time from the state. As Southern and South-Western part of the state still remain to be thoroughly explored, many more species are expected to be added in future. It is hoped that the flora will be useful to the forest managers, botanists, researchers and all those concerned with the study, conservation and sustainable utilisation of the plant resources in the state of Mizoram.

About the authors

N.P. Singh

N.P. Singh is presently working as a Principal Scientist and Head, Division of Agronomy, School of Agricultural Science and Rural Development, Nagaland University, Medziphema. He completed his M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Agronomy from the Institute of Agricultural Sciences, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi. He is a recipient of District Merit Fellowship and BHU Fellowship. He has published 38 research papers and 70 popular articles. He has also attended 76 conferences at regional, national and international levels.

K.P. Singh

Dr. K.P. Singh (b. 21 July 1962) studied at the R.B.S. College, Agra,and completed M.Sc. in 1984 and Ph.D. in 1989. He joined the Department of Botany of the college as a Lecturer in 1989 and is presently a Senior Reader there. He has published 35 research papers in national and international journals and has edited tow books. Twelve of his students have already been awarded Ph.D. degrees and he is guiding eight others for their doctorate. He is a Fellow of the Indian Botanical Society, the Mendelian Society of Indian and the International society for Conservation of Natural Resources. He has been a member of the executive council of the Indian Botanical Society.

D K Singh

Dr. D.K. Singh, is a recipient of award from the State Forest Department of Rajasthan for production and protection of plants through scientific techniques and gold medallist from the C.S.A. University of Agriculture and Technology, Kanpur, U.P., where he did his B.Sc. (Ag. & A.H.) and M.Sc. (Ag) Horticulture in 1988 and 1992 respectively. He obtained his doctorate degree from the G.B. pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar, Uttranchal in 1996 on the research entitled “Effect of paclobutrazol on growth and bearing of mango cultivars”. He was awarded senior research fellowship from I.C.A.R., New Delhi. Dr. Singh started his carrier in 1995 as Assistant Agriculture Research Officer (Horticulture) at Government Agriculture Research Statioin, Hanumangarh Town, Rajasthan. Presently he is Assistant Professor, Horticulture at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Anta, Baran under, M.P. University of Agriculture and Technology, Udaipur. The author has published more than 125 research papers and popular articles in various journals and magazines on various aspects of horticulture besides two bulletins, 5 folders and a pamphlet. He participated in many national and international symposium, workshop and training programme.
