Advances in Plant Reproductive Biology (Volume II)

A.K. Pandey (Editor) M.R. Dhakal (Editor)
Synopsis Starting from descriptive and morphological studies of reproductive organs, the field of plant reproductive biology is advancing rapidly and has entered into an area of experimental, molecular and genetic approaches. As most of the economic products from plant resources are derived through the interplay of sexual reproduction, understanding reproductive processes is a pre-requisite for attempts aimed at optimization and improvement of the yield. Understanding reproductive biology is important for mass propagation, multiplication, hybridization and conservation of endangered and threatened plants. Biological processes such as flowering, function and behaviour of gametes, embryogenesis and seed developments have been the focus of scientific pursue in laboratories working in the field of plant reproduction. Most of the researches are centered now in understanding the functional aspects of reproductive processes. In view of the importance of the biology of reproduction attempt has been made to compile articles covering recent development in this area of research in a series of volumes of Advances in Plant Reproductive Biology. The authors have addressed various aspects related to plant reproduction in a way to give a comprehensive view of the recent developments and the trend of current research in this field.
