Synopsis

The author of the book entitled "Women and the Law" has been serving in the legal field for the last eighteen years approximate and mostly worked for the amelioration of Indian women. He has always tried to draw the kind attention of the Government of India as well as judiciary by writing a number of articles on the issues relating to rights of Indian women. The author has also been delivering lectures on various topics of law including the topics relating to the legal status of Indian women at the university and post graduate level for the last many years. The author was awarded a degree of doctor of laws by the University of Lucknow in the year 1995 through a convocation held in the year 1996, at the age of 40 years approximate. The author has attempted to analyse every aspect of Indian women in different spheres of life from Vedic period to contemporary society in the present book. The socio-economic condition of Indian women has also been discussed in the book. The property and marital rights have been discussed in detail. Some important new topics viz. Common Civil Code, Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Divorce) Act, 1986, the Foreign Marriage Act, 1969, N.R.I’s. marriages, Women’s Reservation Bill, sexual harassment of women at work place, child sexual abuse, and pre-natal diagnostic techniques (Regulation and Prevention of Misuse) Act, 1994 etc. have been included in the present edition. The suggestions have been given in the book at many stages, where found necessary. The recent landmark judgements delivered by Hon’ble Courts till the celebration of "Woman’s Empowerment Year, 2001" have also been discussed in the book. The author believes that this edition will be more useful to all concerned. This is the second edition of the book and the author has made his best efforts to make it more useful for the persons concerned. Any suggestions for further improvement will be greatly appreciated.

He has always tried to draw the kind attention of the Government of India as well as judiciary by writing a number of articles and book on the issues relating to rights of Indian Women and Children. The on various topics of law including the topics relating to the legal status of Indian women and Children at the University and Post-Graduate College level for the last many years. The author was awarded a degree of Doctor of Laws for the thesis on the topic titled 'A Legal Study of Indian Women in different spheres of Life as prescribed in their domestic Laws' by the University of Lucknow in the year 1995 through a convocation held in the year 1996.
