Synopsis

The present book gives vivid description and general introudction of the invincible fort of Kumbhalgarh which was built by Maharana Kumbha on the high packs of Arawali terrain to protect territories of Mewar from the Muslim invaders and other outside incursion. In the begining of the book the geographical ;ocation of fort and the historical background of it have been traced out in the simple language adorned with the lucid style. The strategic importance, the architectural and monumental value of the fort along with the worth-seeing places of the it are the main feature of this book. The main fort and the neighbouring tourist resort of Kumbhalgarh have been mentioned in details which may serve the purpose of guidelines to the tourist and the visitors.

A portait of the personality, works and achievement of Maharana Kumbha with the fort and, therefore, the writer has done labour to trace it out in a sepearate politcal situation of the country and mentality of the medieval age. The stone incriptions of Kumbhalgarh mentioned in the last chapter prove the glorious period of Maharana Kumbha. It can attract the vision of the historians to proveed on the field work of reaearch.

About the author

Gouri Shankar Asawa

Dr. Gauri Shanker Aswa wa born at Kelwara (Kumbhalgarh), district Rajasmand, in 1944. He did M.A. in History in 1967 from Udaipur University. He completed his Ph.D. in 1977 on "Fifteenth Century Mewar" and also secured the degren of Sahitva Ratna in Hindi, from Hidni Sahitya Sammelan, Prayag.

He has been closely associated with college education in teaching and research in History. He was the Head of Department, History at the M.L.V. Government (Autonomos) College, Bhilwara, He is a conscientious and experienced teacher and is deeply devoted to the cause of History, specially those of untrodden aspects of the history of Mewar. His three of the history books - (1) History of Europe, (2) Fifteenth Century Mewar and (3) Mharana Sanga have been publisehd along with many others articles in differrnt papers and magazines.

The present book in Kumbhalgarh Fort is an outcome of his emotional attachment with a very important historical moument of Mewar which has withstood many vagaries of climate and visstudes of unceasing Moghul incursions.
