Synopsis
The book consists of 25 chapters duly contributed by eminent scientists and specialists of the subject with the special reference to cropping systems research at national level. Chapter 1 to 8 deals with various issues related to crop diversification involving series of matching crops, their varieties and management options alongwith the various techniques of crop establishment and improving resource use efficiencies as discussed in detail with respect to selected zones/ states in India.
The chapter 9 and 10 highlights various management options with special reference to sugarcane and vegetable based systems while chapter 11 deals with system based on-farm nutrient response scenario at national level. In chapter 12 to 14, the soil and water conservation related management strategies described in detail in system perspective, while chapter 15 is focused on cropping systems management options in relation to salt affected soils.
The chapter 16 to 18 deals with integrated insect-pest management in system perspective while chapter 19 is focused on energy management. The chapter 20 deals with crop weather relationships, while chapter 21 is focused on various aspect of organic farming. The last part of the book from chapter 22 to 25 is related to various practical and refined tools for assessment of efficiencies of cropping systems through agronomic, physiological and statistical approaches as discussed in details for drawing meaningful  conclusions/inferences by researchers and planners. As such, the book stands as a comprehensive compilation on various aspects of cropping system management.

Dr.  B. Gangwar, presently working as Principal Scientist (Agronomy) and Programme Facilitator (Cropping System Management) at Project Directorate for Cropping Systems Research, Modipuram.  He has severed as Project Coordinator (Agronomy/Diaraland) also. Dr. Gangwar recipient of Fakhruddin Ali Ahmad Award (1986-87) Outstanding Agronomic contributions in Remote area of Andaman-Nicobar Islands.  He has series of recognitions to his credit such as Fellow of Indian Society of Agronomy for outstanding contributions in the field of Agronomy, Fellow of Indian Society for Coastal Agricultural Research for outstanding scientific contributions in coastal areas and Fellow of Society for Recent Developments in Agriculture for outstanding contributions in cropping systems research.  he has served as founder General Secretary, Andaman Science Association for 5 years; Joint Secretary, Indian Society Agronomy (1999-02); Editor-in-Chief, J. Andaman Science Association (1996-99); Journal of Farming Systems Research and Development (1999-2005); Editor, Agronomy News (1999-2000); Agronomy Digest (2002); Indian J. Agronomy (2003 & 2004); Member, Editorial Board, 20d International Agronomy Congress (2002) and Indian J Crop Science (2006 to date).  He has 268 scientific contributions in his credit involving 100 research papers, 102 popular articles, 13 chapters in books 11 books/manuals, 14 research/ extension bulletins and 28 edited publications.
