Synopsis Islamic principles of the Quran and Hadith underline the supremacy of human beings and human development. They also explain why and how to achieve it. Islam has its own concept of human personality and its ingredients. The components of human development – viz. education, health, food, gender equality, poverty, freedom and morality are addressed in this book in Islamic setting. The idea of human development, as advanced by the UNDP is of recent origin. Its concept and measurement are changing and are under modification. This book presents the Islamic approach to it. With usual theoretical framework of analysis, the book falls into the domain of economics and Islamic economics. It covers various dimensions of human development in the light of Islamic principles. The analysis takes care of both – the contemporary demands and the Islamic injunctions for human development. Country experiences of Pakistan and Saudi Arabia are given as evidences of Islamic countries in human development with regard to their Islamic policy framework and performance.
