Economic Problems of Indian Agriculture

P C Bansil (Author)
Synopsis The sixth edition of the book has come out nearly two decades after the release of the fifth edition. The earlier editions were well received by the concerned readers who found the book to be a rich source of information and material on the subject. This edition is revised, enlarged and completely rewritten, and covers practically all the relevant topics in sufficient depth to enthuse deep interest in not only the students but also the teachers and researchers in the field. All the important and current issues like demand for foodgrains by 2020, Indian farmer in the new millennium, and globalisation and the WTO, have been discussed in detail. Other chapters that have been newly added are: agricultural development, labour policy, economics of farm size, land policy, agricultural subsidies, hunger, poverty and malnutrition, demand for foodgrains by 2020 AD, post-harvest management and food processing industry, and globalisation of agriculture and World Trade Organization. The book should serve as a useful text for the students of agricultural economics, and also as a rich resource for the researchers. This edition is expected to make an interesting reading for the planners, policy-makers, administrators, leaders in the political and agricultural fields, and educated farmers who wish to be familiar with the economic problems that concern the farming community, and search for the viable solutions.
