Synopsis Islam teaches its believers to wage war against the non-believers.  Not true.  Subjugation of women is clearly prescribed in the Quran.  Not true.  Islam is all about war and occupation, not about advancing human knowledge and civilization.  Absolutely not true.  If these are all myths, then what are the truths?

The author, a non-Muslim with no other affiliation with Islam, frames the Quran and Hadith in their proper historical context to explain what the frequently misinterpreted words written in the scripture and spoken by the Prophet truly mean.  He then goes further and points out the civilizing, and humanizing, influence of this relatively young religion throughout the world.  In his arduous five-year journey through hundreds of scholarly books and articles, sourced from libraries in India and the United States, the author finds a religion not unlike others, great sources of ethics and socio-political order-and not unlike other religions, breeding its own band of extremists and distortionists.

The Truth About Islam, though a scholarly research project, reads like a bedtime history book, full of facts and ideas to be savoured by anyone who has opinion on Islam.  And who doesn’t! Given the current geopolitical turmoil, such a book had to be written at this time, not to justify a religion but to serve mankind’s eternal search for knowledge and truth.
