Let's Know Sikhism: A Religion of Harmony, Brotherhood and Tolerance

Kartar Singh Bhalla (Author)
Synopsis Sikhism, the youngest of the major religions of the world, was born in the second half of the 15 century. Based on the divine philosophy of Guru Nanak, Sikhism evolved through a succession of nine Gurus, reaching its glory and acquiring a distinct identity under the tenth Guru, Guru Gobind Singh in the year 1699. After Guru Gobind Singh’s death in 1708, personal Guruship ended and Granth Sahib, the holy scripture containing the hymns composed by Sikh Gurus was installed as, and has since been, the Guru of the Sikhs as ordained by Guru Gobind Singh. Sikhism is a positive, joyous, spiritually-oriented, life-affirming philosophy as manifested through divine hymns of Guru Granth Sahib. Sikhs are a warm, affectionate and progressive community with a global outlook and their faith stands for love, harmony, equality, service and charity. This book gives a thumb-nail sketch of life, philosophy and contribution of each Guru, Sikh traditions and practices, Sikh shrines and related matters. It will be useful not only for Sikhs, particularly the younger generation of Sikhs, but also for non-Sikhs who may like to know the essence of Sikhism and what Sikhs stand for. It will be a refreshing and informative reading for persons of all age groups.
