Synopsis
The first three chapters of the book deal with the academically significant topics such as, Microscope, Preparation of Temperory slide of plant materials and Herbarium Technique. From chapter 4 to 22 the drug for practical study has been described in detail. Chapter 23 deals with the family wise checklist of Medicinal plants included in the B.A.M.S. and M.D. (Ay) syllabus.

Care has been taken to describe the drugs in semi-technical language and to arrange the glossary of terms in alphabetic order. The subject matter and various illustrations have been taken from reliable journels and other authentic sources. Most of the diagrams have been sketched by the author from fresh specimens (dissected flowers and microscopical sections).

P.Y. Ansary

Dr. P.Y. Ansary, a reputed Ayurvedic teacher, scholar and enthusiastic research fellow in the field of Dravyaguna Vijnanam, took his degree in Ayurveda, B.A.M.S., from Govt. Ayurveda College, Trippunithura, Ernaakulam (Dt.), Kerala in the year 1990. He acquired the Post Graduate Degree, M.D. (Ay.) in the specialty, Dravyaguna vijnanam from Govt. Ayurveda Collge, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala the most reputed Ayurvedic educational institution in South India. Soon after the Post-graduation he entered the Government service under Ayurvedic Medical Education Department, Kerala. He started his career as Tutor in the mother institution, Govt. Ayurveda College, Trippunithura. After 3 years service as teacher in this institution, served another 3 years in Govt. Ayurveda College, Thiruvananthapuram, during which he guided the post-graduate students of Dravyaguna vijnanam, under the University of Kerala. Now he is the Lecturer in the Dept. of Dravyaguna vijnanam, Govt. Ayurveda College, Trippunithura. He has been actively engaged in the research of various aspects of Medicinal Plants for the last 12 years. The author has published more than 5 research papers on multitude of topics in different journals. He has also presented papers in the subject in various National seminars.
