Archana Kumari (Editor) R.K. Verma (Editor)
Synopsis It has been a predominant assumption that the position of women in our society cannot be improved unless they seek power have say in the decision making process. Hence the issue of women political leadership becomes pertinent in present situation. The politico-legal arrangements have also not been found effective due to lack of self-assertion among the common women. In order to make these arrangements effective, women themselves have to be self assertive and sensitized to play roles in social and political domain. The introduction of new Panchayat Raj Institutions (PRIs) has broadened the canvas of their political roles at grassroots level in general in India and in Bihar in Particular. On the country, it is largely alleged that proxy leadership prevails among women. Political parties and voluntary agencies need to come up for making women sensitized to take roles in social and political domain. A number of voluntary agencies have taken steps in this regard in Bihar. Thus, the phenomenon of women political leadership acquires significance It is high time to take the stock of situation of women political leadership in our polity in Its varied dimensions like emergence/ introduction, roles and function, their situation/ roles in political bodies and parties'functionaries at both macro and micro levels, their relationship with their male counterparts, social capital among them, women leadership in other spheres, the impact of voluntarism and socio-economic ecology and so on. As such the book examines the theoretical concerns, micro and macro level WPL, political empowerment and politico legal arrangements as well as concerns in the Hindi literature.
