About the authors

R.T. Patil

Dr. R.T. Patil is presently holding the post of Director of Central Institute of Post-Harvest Engineering and Technology (CIPHET) under ICAR which is a nodal institute to undertake lead researches in Post Harvest Management and Value Addition. Dr. Patil has B. Tech. degree (Ag. Engg), M. Tech (Crop Process Engineering) from India Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, India and PhD in Bio Process Engineering from University of Saskatchewan, Canada and finished 2 years of Post Doctoral Fellowship at Washington State University, Pullman (USA). He has 28 years of research experience in food process engineering. He has contributed 5 books/bulletins and 5 book chapters. His areas of expertise are drying and dehydration, novel product development, physical properties and advanced extrusion processing. Dr. Patil has so far developed 16 research prototypes, 5 process protocols, 3 pilot plants and contributed to two US patents and three Indian patents with over 100 papers published in national and international journals and over 100 presentations (4 presentation awarded best paper award) in national and international conferences. He is a recipient of Best Graduate thesis award of Canadian Society of Agricultural Engineers for his PhD and the team award from Ministry of Education, Government of Poland for Thermal Processing of Bio Materials. He was elected as Directed (Food Process Engineering) of ISAE during 1998-2000 and was elected three times as Vice President of Indian Society of Agricultural Engineers and presently he is Vice President, Association of Food Scientists and Technologist, India.

R K Gupta

is a disciple of Param Sant Thakur Ram Singhji of Jagatpura, Manoharpuria, Jaipur, a great Sufi saint of his time. Thakur Ram Singhji was a living scripture, whose life left a deep impression on all those, who had an opportunity to spend some time at his lotus feet. A man of few words, Thakur Ram Singhji used to melt the hearts of the seekers, by a mere sigh, which is the specially of Naqshbandi Sufis; they transmit the spiritual vitality from of spending the formative years of his youth at his lotus feet and thereafter at the feet of his father Dr. Chandra Gupta and elder brother Shri Krishna Kumar Gupta, both of whom were also Sufi saints.

Some of the other books written by the author on related subjects are: 'Yogis in Silence- The Great Sufi Masters', 'Sufism Beyond Religion', Prem Pravartak Sufis', 'Science and Philosophy of Spirituality', 'Sufi-Sant Mat-Darshan aur Vigyan' and 'Autobiography of a Sufi'.

The author has also translated the three main scriptures of the three most renowned religions of the world, i.e. Srimadbhagvatgita, the Holy Qur' an and the Holy Bible in common men's language in poem form in Hindi.

Desh Beer Singh

Dr. Desh Beer Singh is presently Principal Scientist (Horticulture) at Central Institute of Temperate Horticulture (ICAR), Srinagar, J&K. He got his Masters degree from Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana and Ph.D degree in the field of Horticulture from Agra University, Agra. His field of specialization is production and post harvest management of horticultural produce and its value addition. Further he has obtained advanced training from USDA, USA in the field of conservation of plant genetic resources and from RAS, Russia in the field of post harvest management of horticultural produce. Dr. Singh has also identified a new species of banana and several unexploited tribal fruits from Andaman forests. He has contributed 7 bulletins, 8 book chapters, and published more than 70 research papers and 3 books besides 40presentations in various national and international conferences (2 presentations awarded as best paper award). Dr. Singh has also guided students for their master's degree and M.Phil programme. He has been a part time faculty member of Institute of Business Management, Rau Bikaner and is also an invited member in Board of Post of Graduate Studies, Nagaland University, Nagaland. He is also life member of many professional societies like Indian Society of Horticulture, ISAE, and Indian Society of Arid Horticulture. He has been rewarded by SAARC Agricultural Information Center for his success story on production of pineapple round the year in Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
